Alexander Yoshikawa
Alexander Yoshikawa is a sculptor based in Oakland, California, and co-owner of Splady Art Studios. Working primarily in bronze and steel, his practice draws on both traditional casting techniques and contemporary fabrication to explore form, material memory, and abstraction.
Yoshikawa’s path began in San Francisco, where he was introduced to glass, ceramics, and photography at a young age. Over the years, he developed his skills through mentorship, teaching, and hands-on experience—first at Sharon Art Studios, later at UC Davis Craft Center and under the guidance of sculptor Stephanie Robison. In 2016, he joined Charles Splady’s studio, eventually becoming a partner and playing a key role in building out the foundry’s bronze casting capabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
His current work reflects a shift toward distilled, symbolic forms—structures that feel simultaneously ancient and imagined. Through cast and fabricated sculpture, Yoshikawa engages with the tension between solidity and void, drawing the viewer into quiet spaces of reflection.
